Giang Nguyen

I am a graduate student at the Department of Linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania. My advisor is Jiahong Yuan. I am a member of the Penn Phonetics Lab, and I am the organizer of Splunch, our weekly speech research lunch meeting.

My fields of research are phonetics, sociolinguistics, computational linguistics and Vietnamese linguistics. I am interested in variation in articulatory production and perception of speech sound and its applications for speech recognition. I am also working on dialectal variation of Vietnamese tones and vowel system.

I received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Hawaii under the supervision of professor Patricia Donegan. I graduated from my program in 2005 with a honor thesis “Vietnamese vowel systems of Hanoi, Hue and Saigon dialects”.
