Light-headed relatives Barbara Citko This paper provides an account of the syntax and semantics of Polish relatives headed by demonstrative elements, (henceforth called Light-Headed Relatives). I examine the properties of Light-Headed Relatives that distinguish them from both Headed and Headless Relatives. The analysis I provide for Light-Headed Relatives relies crucially on the contribution of a demonstrative pronoun which I argue parallels the contribution of a demonstrative pronoun in equative statements. I argue that Equatives and Light-Headed Relatives are parallel structurally, and that both involve an equative copula selecting a small clause constituent, composed of two noun phrases in the case of Equatives and of two clauses in the case of Light-Headed Relatives. Keywords: Light-Headed Relatives, Equative statements, Determiner Copulas, Demonstrative pronouns, Correlatives.
